외국의 한 기관에서 매년 2회씩 평가하고 있는 세계대학 랭킹입니다

 

예전에 대학교 다닐때(1996년) 교수 왈→ 대학교 랭킹은 논문위주인데 울나라는 교수가  학생논문을 표절해서 대한민국 대학이.......

 

대부분 한국에서는 서울대가 으뜸이라고 하지만 사실 포항공대가 으뜸이라고 하네요. 요즘은 (카이스트)

 

 

 

 Ranking Web of World Universities라는 제목의 http://www.webometrics.info 입니다.
(사실 구글 검색결과로는 TOP UNIVERSITIES^[각주:1]라는 사이트가 더 우수하다고 나타나지만,

그런 의미에서 이번 포스트에서는 Ranking Web of World Universities 사이트에 대해 간략히 소개하도록 하겠습니다.
먼저 이 사이트의 간략한 특징을 살펴보겠습니다.

• 독특한 랭킹 결정 알고리즘 : 4가지 지표를 이용한 랭킹 결정 방식을 확인할 수 있습니다.
• 방대한 세계 대학 랭킹 : 최대 Top 6,000개 대학의 랭킹을 확인할 수 있습니다.
• 대륙별 대학 랭킹 : 각 대륙별 대학 랭킹을 확인할 수 있습니다.
  
• 대륙 및 나라별 상위 대학 분포 : 대륙 및 나라별 상위 대학 랭킹을 확인할 수 있습니다.
  
• 나라별 대학 정보 : 각 나라의 등록된 대학 정보를 확인할 수 있습니다.
  

Ranking Web of World Universities는 다음과 같은 4가지 지표를 이용해 대학들의 순위를 결정합니다.(번역해보려다가 의미전달이 모호해질 것 같아 원문만 표기합니다. ㅎㅎ;)

Size (S). Number of pages recovered from four engines: Google, Yahoo, Live Search and Exalead.

Visibility (V). The total number of unique external links received (inlinks) by a site can be only confidently obtained from Yahoo Search, Live Search and Exalead.

Rich Files (R). After eval!uation of their relevance to academic and publication activities and considering the volume of the different file formats, the following were selected: Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Adobe PostScript (.ps), Microsoft Word (.doc) and Microsoft Powerpoint (.ppt). These data were extracted using Google, Yahoo Search, Live Search and Exalead.

Scholar (Sc). Google Scholar provides the number of papers and citations for each academic domain. These results from the Scholar database represent papers, reports and other academic items.

일반적인 생각으로는 학술적으로 의미가 있는 평가수치(Published article or paper 수)만 유효할 것 같지만, 이 사이트에서는 검색엔진에서 검색되는 페이지나 링크, 다양한 포멧의 발표자료 수 등을 바탕으로 순위를 매겼습니다.
